Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (Piston) labor leader from Pampanga, Poncing Infante, was assassinated Monday afternoon in Angeles City. Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU), a militant labor center in the Philippines, released this press statement:
Poncing Infante, leader of the Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (Piston) in Pampanga, was shot dead last Monday afternoon by two motorcycle-riding gunmen in a jeepney terminal in Barangay Pandan, near Marquee Mall in Angeles City.
Infante is also the leader of the biggest jeepney federation in Angeles City. Piston is a member of the KMU.
“We condemn the extra-judicial killing of our comrade Poncing Infante. His death shows that Arroyo-type human rights violations are continuing under Pres. Aquino,” said Elmer “Bong” Labog, KMU chairperson.
“The Aquino government is not only ignoring drivers’ and people’s clamor against the overpricing being carried out by the oil cartel. It is also attacking militant transport leaders who oppose its collusion with the oil cartel,” he said.
Infante is the fourth Piston leader who was shot dead under the Aquino presidency.
“We call on the workers and people, of the Philippines and the world, to condemn the Aquino government for its policy of extra-judicial killings,” he said.
